Complete a Dialectical Journal Entry MINIMUM 50 WORDS RESPONSE- remember to choose a quote from what you read or paraphrase something you read in your own words, then respond: what did it make you think about? why is it important to the story? etc.......
2. Diamond Graphic Organizer:
Fold paper in half, then in half again. Fold over inner corner of squared paper to form a triangle shape. When unfolded, the diamond will be in the middle.
Number the squares 1-4 and fill in with the following one square at a time:
1. Response to Images (view 10 of the images from the Haiti earthquake; What are your feelings about viewing the images? Were you upset by them? Do you think they should be viewed by everyone?Haiti Images
2. Survey the Text (teacher will hand out the article. Look at the title, look at when the article was published on the back, read the first and last sentence. On your graphic organizer, describe what you think the article will be about.

Read the article aloud as a whole class. Stop to explain or discuss as necessary.

Number paragraphs together, model on ELMO
Work with a partner to read the article together. CIRCLE sources (people the author quotes in his article) and UNDERLINE what the sources say
5. Study Group/Homework Time: last 20 minutes (tutors give scores on attendance sheet of 1-25 for participation for the day during this time)
